Vacation Bible School, also known as VBS is now impacting its third century. Wikipedia writes “The origins of Vacation Bible School can be traced back to Hopedale, Illinois in 1894. Sunday school teacher D. T. Miles, who also was a public school teacher, felt she was limited by time constraints in teaching the Bible to children. So, she started a daily Bible school to teach children during the summer. The first Bible school enrolled forty students and lasted four weeks. A local school was used for classes, while an adjoining park was used for recess” Currently most VBS programs are run by local churches and last about a week. They still use a variety of places to host their VBS and most of them still adhere to the original concept, focus on teaching the Bible.
Cornerstone Church of Littlerock presents Son Quest Vacation Bible School June 28-July 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 8533 E. Avenue T. All children going into the 1st-6th grade are encouraged to attend.
